Galaxy Newsbrief 010114: Happy New Year

* Tom Spurgeon weighs in on Marvel's decision to stop selling single issue comic books outside the direct market of comic book stores. He makes a lot of sense, no matter how much my inner 10-year-old wants there to always be copious single issues in drug stores, supermarkets and convenience stores. It's hard to believe the world in which that was a reality has been gone longer than my now-adult children have been alive, but there it is.

* At CBR, Augie sums up his 2013 Pipeline columns and looks at some Carl Barks Donald Duck comics.

* Go read Matt Fraction's piece on sobriety and the holidays.

* Off today for the New Year holiday and looking for something to read? My free, downloadable ADD 3-Pack of ebooks includes Strange Whine, Anhedonia and Conversations with ADD. Mostly about comics, with some essays on real life and politics thrown in too.

* Uncomics: I listed "10 albums that have stuck with me on Facebook" on New Year's Eve. They are: Tool - Lateralus; Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon; Peter Gabriel - So; INXS - Listen Like Thieves; Simple Minds - Once Upon A Time; Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms; Beatles - Abbey Road; Police - Synchronicity; Talking Heads - True Stories; and U2 - The Unforgettable Fire.
