Galaxy Newsbrief 122113: Happy Solstice

* That website with the annoying Big Lebowski logo tells you everything you need to know about The New 52, in case you were lucky enough not to have read any of these terrible comic books.

* Tony Isabella looks at how writing about political issues can really upset people who'd just rather he shut up about things that matter and get back to writing about funnybooks. Me, I enjoy his writing on both subjects.

* Kind of sorry to hear Anna Paquin's scene got cut from X-Men: Days of Future Past. Paquin was the third-best thing about the first X-Men movie (after Jackman's Wolverine and Stewart's Professor Xavier), but maybe director Bryan Singer is being faithful to the storyline he is adapting, in which Paquin's character Rogue did not appear (that I recall). What probably made her unnecessary to the film is that her Rogue was essentially Kitty Pryde with Rogue's powers, and someone else ended up playing Kitty (very well, at that) later in the X-movie franchise.

* Updates could be sporadic here between now and the new year. There's so little going on comics-news-wise that it's probably going to be tough to come up with enough to justify a post every day, unless you want to hear about how I am overdue for a haircut, still have holiday gifts to buy, or worst of all, have to pad with insights on the casting and editing decisions of superhero movies. But if you're stopping by regularly or reading me in your feed reader, I do want to thank you for finding a place for me in your regular internet habits, and I hope you and yours enjoy happy holidays and a great new year.
