* Tom Spurgeon pointed to this terrible recolouring job on some old Kirby/Colletta Thor artwork. My 12-year-old self would not have thought it possible to make Colletta's inking look any worse than it did back then, but there's the proof. And a demonstration of the power of the insanely wrongheaded modern colouring techniques applied to art never meant to be ruined by them. Related: Here's a review I wrote of the TwoMorrows book about Vince Colletta.
* Johanna Draper Carlson has your disturbing quotes of the day, from a blinkered retailer and an oblivious reader, both toxic to comics as a culture. Brian Hibbs coming to tell you this is the exception rather than the rule in 3...2...
* Shitty actor steals from great cartoonist. Hopefully there's no way for him to squirm out of having to write Dan Clowes a big check to settle this asshole move. Tom Spurgeon comments.
Recoloring old material is always tricky. Sometimes new colorists make it look too artificial.
ReplyDeleteClowes should sue Shia LeBouf.
On the face of it, I agree that Clowes should sue. But something about this whole thing has my spider-sense tingling, especially given that the "apology" was plagiarized too. I'm hopeful it's all some sort of publicity stunt that Clowes was always in on/aware of and that there's a happy ending, but maybe that's too much to hope for. The short film itself is good enough that I wish it was officially sanctioned and not tainted by the accusations at hand. It's not Ghost World, but it's better than Art School Confidential, you know?
