* Sorry for the lack of an update yesterday, but yes, we had no bananas. Today? Bananas.
* Writer of-and-about comics Tony Isabella discusses why he wishes Steve Ditko really were attending a comic book convention, and also delivers a sensible and convincing argument for re-electing Barack Obama, in a lengthy and diverse Bloggy Thing.
* At Robot 6, we see even a self-professed fan of Geoff Johns can eventually begin to sense how shitty he is for comics.
* Uncomics: Benedict Cumberbatch talks about his role in 2013's Star Trek movie. Roger Ebert analyzes Clint Eastwood's dazed and confused RNC performance.
* Uncomics: Bob Lefsetz talks about David Letterman's appearance on Alec Baldwin's podcast. Buried in the middle, Lefsetz says something every would-be comics creator should print out and post over their workspace: "[Letterman] and Merrill Markoe create his own show, which he thinks everybody is waiting for, but they’re not. That’s the arrogance, you think everybody is waiting for you, when you show up they’re gonna drop everything and pay attention. You’ve been woodshedding off the grid and now you’ve arrived. Huh? Most people just don’t care." Burn that into your brains, folks, then reflect on it when you're wondering why things don't seem to be developing they way you thought they would, or worse, they way you think you "deserve." Then work harder. Get past it, get better. Get so goddamned good that it hurts, and work at it every day. Eventually, if you have what it takes, that magic mix of talent, will and perseverance, you will get noticed. But don't make comics to get noticed (Mark Millar), make comics to communicate ideas and share experiences. And entertain, sure, do that too. Those are the motivations that matter.
