Galaxy Newsbrief - July 23rd, 2012

* Longtime comics industry figure Rich Buckler, known primarily for drawing comics in the style of Jack Kirby and/or Neal Adams, has begun Rich Buckler's Secrets Behind the Comics. By clicking over to his first column, you'll learn such secrets from his time in comics as "Conceptually every cover was a tough nut to crack," and "Surrealism is not an art style." How long before the shadow cabinet that covertly rules the comics industry puts a price on Buckler's head for revealing such long-held secrets? Bonus: Buckler illustrates his points with mediocre comic books covers he has drawn.

* Over the weekend I reviewed the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. So did Tim O'Neil. Spoiler alert: It's doubtful either of us will be going to see it again. In other reviews, Christopher Allen reads Captain Marvel #1 so you don't have to; Bob Temuka reads Invincible Vol. 14; Nick Jones talks about  Alan Moore: Storyteller by Gary Spencer Millidge.

* Tom Spurgeon's long-running Sunday interview series yesterday focused on Jessica Campbell on the occasion of her leaving employer Drawn and Quarterly. Best of luck to her in all her future projects.
